THERE'S GOT TO BE MORE THAN THIS!

Easter repudiates so powerfully what Thomas

Hobbes declared in his book Leviathan. This

pessimistic modern philosopher asserted that

life is "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.

" Easter proves that life, with all it's lights and

shadows, is insanely amazing. And it is worth living.

Like Hobbes, many people in our day and age have a problem with transcendence or anything transcendent like the Lord's resurrection. It is so easy to be lulled into the assumption that this life is all we've got; that this life is all there is and it doesn't get better than this.

Easter busts the thinking that death says the last word. We believe the witness of the apostles that the Risen Lord appeared to them bodily. They have proclaimed that the Crucified One is dead no longer. He is alive! He ate and prayed with them again. Their experience of the Risen Lord is the original Easter message. It is the origin of our faith!

Therefore, Easter could only be meaningful to us if we have a deep and personal relationship with the Risen Jesus. All human beings who are in a meaningful relationship have inside them this universal and ontological imprint that life must go on even after death. It cannot stop. Life must go on. There is more than meets the eye. There is more than the life here on earth. There is more than all the wonderful things and experiences we have in this life. There is more than the grandest things we have accomplished in this life. Our God is a God of life not death. There's got to be more than this!

Have a blessed Easter!
